OFF BEAT

Off Beat was a choreography designed to intentionally diverge from the music, allowing the movements to dictate the pace and rhythm of the dance. Through the incorporation of pauses and repetitive movements, I aimed to explore the concept of the body creating its own music. I sought to understand how to relegate the music to the background, and how to navigate and integrate as well the space into the choreography.

This piece delved into the experience of moving when feeling out of sync. Off Beat was danced at the Student Sharing Event in May 2024 with the Inkorpora Project at Aleksanterin Teatterin, captivating contemporary and ballet students in Helsinki. I had the pleasure of collaborating with the talented dancers Nina Pastel and Maria Soderhölm, who brought this unique dance piece to life with me.
